Sugar Rush to Benefit Care to Learn

A video from KOLR 10,

November 2011

Here's a chance to get your sweet on and help raise money for local kids.

Students in the Students in Free Enterprise program at Drury University, The Cake Pop Company and more than two dozen local businesses are hosting the 2nd annual Sugar Rush tonight.

It's a veritable dessert smorgasbord, raising money for the Care to Learn program. It will be held at The O'Reilly Family Event Center at Drury University from 6-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011.

KOZL's Mike Corcoran is live this morning at Elle's Patisserie at 1454 East Cherry to sample some of the dishes and talk about the event. Watch the attached video to see our interview with Sarah Montgomery, the director of the Drury SIFE team.

More about this event:

Sugar Rush serves up a chance for local dessert vendors to combine what they do best with raising much-needed funds to support area disadvantaged youth, all while creating the opportunity of a lifetime for college students planning the event.

It will be an evening of socializing and delicious desserts. Attendees will be able to sample desserts from 27 different local businesses including AmyCakes, Bambinos, Big Momma's, The Cake Pop Company, Elle's Patisserie, Gelato Mio, Gigi's Cupcakes, Granolove, Heroes Coffee, The Hot Chocolate, June's Cakery, Krispy Kreme, Love Bites, My Mary's Wine Jellies, Nonna's Caf, Orange Leaf, Peachwave Frozen Yogurt, Pickleman's Gourmet Caf, Ray's Donuts, Sam's Club, Star Cakes, Style by the Slice, Sweet Creations by Jen, Sweet Thymes Cupcakes, Cakes and Catering, Tea Bar and Bites Bakery and Caf and The Cup.

After hosting last year's inaugural event, the Drury SIFE team was eager to make this year's Sugar Rush even bigger and better. The Drury SIFE team has played an integral role in every step of the event-planning process.

All proceeds will go to benefit Care to Learn, an organization that addresses the social and economic needs of local K-12 students. Last year, the event raised a total of $8,034 providing 287 students with breakfast and lunch for two months.
